Week 1-October 5-Pumpkin Picking

It's October, which means it's Fall, which means it's the season for pumpkins.

Picture this, the air is brisk the leaves are orange, red and yellow and pumpkins are in season. You decide to pack up the family and drive to a nearby pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins. You and your family are having a great time, everyones giggling and enjoying the fresh air and the beautiful nature look of Autumn. To top it off the leaves are falling and swirling around your feet. You are having the best time ever and you even find 'the perfect pumpkin'.

Wouldn't you just want to live those moments above? Well you certainly can!

What are you looking for in a pumpkin picking experience? Are you hoping to have a trip to a pumpkin patch nearby without much travel time, but still have a wonderful experience? If so, look below, where it says 'Trip A'. If you are looking for a little bit more adventure and want to travel a little farther and have a wonderful experience, see 'Trip B', below. If you don't really care how far or how near you go, you just want fun, look at 'Trip C' and Trips A and B. Or you could look at all trip choices to get a feel for all the kinds of pumpkin patches there are!

Trip A
Go online and search 'pumpkin patches nearby' to find the perfect place to go, if you don't know of one already. Also, park districts usually have a certain date and time when you don't just pick pumpkins, you can also play games, do crafts and get your face painted, that will add A LOT to the fun! I find this link for finding nearby pumpkin patches and mazes VERY helpful. TAKE A LOOK!

Trip B
Go online and search 'Historic Pumpkin Patches' or 'Famous Pumpkin Patches'. I really like this Festival in Thorp, Wisconsin, called Pumpkin Fest. It is VERY fun! Farmers sell HUNDREDS of PUMPKINS, homemade food and ice cream is sold,  there are a TON of venders bringing their homemade goods/products and MANY activities throughout the fun-filled day!
Check out Pumpkin Fest in Thorp Wisconsin. Pumpkin Fest is this Saturday, October 6th!
I also know of this place called Melick's Farm. There apples are REALLY tasty! I've only been there once and it wasn't pumpkin season, so we picked apples!

Trip C
Go online and search 'Fun Places to go to Pick Pumpkins. I know of two fun places. 1. Goebbert's Pumpkin Patch. I've been to the one in Hampshire, Il before. It is REALLY nice and REALLY reasonable! 2. Mulberry Lane Farm. I've never been there but it seems fun!

Whichever path you take, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Now here is a little bit of history on pumpkin patches:

Pumpkins originated in North America. Related plants have been found in Mexico, dating  back to 7000 to 5500 B.C. The name pumpkin originates from the greek word "large melon". Pumpkin has been a main food in the Native American Indian diet.   Check out The Pumpkin Patch for a little more interesting information on pumpkins history.
